David Gerard Geraghty is a contemporary composer whose work explores the intersection of traditional orchestration and atmospheric resonance. Since settling on the Beara Peninsula in 1993, his output has been inextricably linked to the West Cork landscape—translating the vastness of the Atlantic edge into intimate and expansive sonic forms.
David holds a BA in Music from WIT and an MA from DIT’s Conservatory of Music and Drama. His pursuit of orchestral excellence led him to study under industry luminaries Conrad Pope and Jeff Atmajian, bridging the gap between classical tradition and modern cinematic scoring. His compositions have been realized by the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Fidelio Trio. While he maintains an active profile in film and media scoring, David’s primary focus remains on creating evocative concert music that challenges and connects with the listener.
With decades of experience in music education, David is a committed mentor to emerging talent. His teaching philosophy emphasizes the importance of understanding the history of music while finding one's unique voice within it.
David is a proud member of the Irish Composers Collective (ICC), the Screen Composers Guild of Ireland (SCGI), and IMRO.
