My creative practice is a process of sonic translation. Since establishing myself on the Beara Peninsula in 1993, my work has been a lifelong dialogue with the physical world, and an attempt to decode the rugged energy, the shifting Atlantic light, and the vastness of the Beara landscape into immersive musical narratives.
When you sit with my music, you are entering a space where rigorous classical architecture meets a raw, sensory immediacy. I do not aim to merely describe the landscape; I aim to capture its pulse. My compositions bridge the gap between traditional orchestration and modern atmospheric textures, creating a "vibe" that is as technically fluent as it is emotionally resonant. My music is rooted in a deep connection to the subject, the atmosphere, and the energy of a specific place, inviting the performer and the audience to inhabit that space together.
My career is defined by a relentless exploration of sound across concert halls, film, and interdisciplinary collaborations. Grounded in a BA (1999) from WIT and an MA from DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama (2015), my technical foundation was further refined through the Composition Summer School (2013) and intensive orchestration workshops with Jeff Atmajian and Conrad Pope. This academic craft-focus is driven by a decade of practical leadership as the choral and musical director of Ceol na n’Óg, Castletownbere (2003-2013), alongside a long-standing career as a classically trained pianist and multi-disciplinary music tutor.
My output is characterized by high-stakes orchestral projects, most notably the recording of 'Curse of Kings' with the 110-piece Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra and the 2017 Beara Arts commission 'On the Edge of Darkness'. I have consistently pushed the boundaries of my craft through workshops with the Fidelio Trio and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, and by bringing music to diverse audiences through Poetry Ireland's "Poetry in Schools" project and the resulting 'Big Blue' performance at the Arts Council in Dublin. Whether collaborating with writer Alex Barclay, scoring feature films and shorts - utilising both digital and live scores - or contributing as an active member of the ICC, SCGI, and IMRO, my work remains a constant, evolving pursuit of technical excellence and visceral connection.
